My (Annoyingly) Enduring Laptop

Recently, I’ve seen a few Clean Romance authors share their writing spaces with their followers, so I thought it would be fun to do the same. Then I realized that I currently have no writing space…not a specific space, anyway, and certainly not as nice as some of the ones I’ve seen.

If I could, I would be sitting on a beach in Cornwall (of course) with the sun warming my face, the cool wind in my hair, and the sounds, scents, and sights of the sea and pink thrift pulling me away from reality and into fictional perfection.

Instead, I write wherever my children won’t destroy my laptop...any further than they already have. Here’s a fun little list of ailments the blessed li’l guy has.
CD/DVD Drive Snapped Off
I gave up fixing this when a small flame burst forth from the opening.
Letters Scraped Off of Keyboard
 Can’t blame the kids for this one. Apparently, I use the letters ‘e,’ ‘s,’ ‘d,’ ‘n,’ ‘m,’ and ‘v’ a lot.
Faulty Spacebar and 'S' Keys
Try writing about “Mr-._-ander-_-eeing_the_-ea,_walking_in_the _-and,_and _-oiling_her_-lipper-" without spaces and the letter 's.'
Volume Raising and Lowering Randomly
This is super fun, especially while watching Netflix.
Faulty Headphone Jack
The sound likes to snap, crackle, and pop...Oh, and it only works in one ear.
Screen Unhinged
Did you know a screen can come deattached from the back of a laptop and still work? I didn’t. Also, binder clips work great keeping it together. See below.
Screen Lowering on One Side
Sometimes, I have to tilt my head to see the screen straight on. It also falls every so often, like a head flopping with an unsupportive neck.
Broken Charger
Only works when pressed hard or on its side. Again, see below.

So there you have it. Only eight things wrong with this stalwart machine. I did promise my husband I wouldn't deliberately break it further...but we'll see how much longer I last. I'll be sure to keep you posted.

Until then, happy sideways-writing.

Oh my gosh. Your poor laptop! I feel your pain. I've got a Dell that isn't even very old, but it's got so many issues. I just took my first big royalty check and bought a new one. And I spent so much money on it that I'm basically going to be treating it like a newborn babe.

It is the worst, isn't it?! I will be doing the same thing the minute I purchase a new one. I'm just (im)patiently biding my time...

I remember when you bought that laptop (awh)! For some reason I always think that 2009-2011 was like, 3 years ago. But you've had that baby a long time (assuming it's the same one haha). I JUST got rid of my old red one this year hahaha. And it had almost all the same problems as yours 😂😂 anywho, I miss you! And I like your blog a lot.

Aw, thank you! :) I'm glad you read it. ha ha I can't believe you just got rid of that thing!! I'm so impressed, and a little jealous. It's actually a different laptop. The one I had in college, Christian stepped on it and crushed it. HA! Also, I do the same thing. It's been almost ten years since we graduated...
