My List of Top Ten Period Dramas

9/25/2018

When I write too often, my brain slowly stops working, so every once in a while, I take a little downtime by watching my favorite period dramas. So, here, for your reading (or should I say, "viewing"?) pleasure, is my top ten list.
Picture

10. Downton Abbey - I used to love this show, and it would have made higher on my list, had (spoiler alert!) the main characters not left the show. Such a bummer.
Picture

9. Jane Eyre - I love all of the movie adaptations, but the one with Michael Fassbender is one of my favorites. It's told in such a unique way.

8. Ever After - This is a period drama...isn't it? I watched this movie so often as a kid, and it's still just as sweet and romantic now!
Picture

7. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - I'd be lying if I said I didn't have to look up that title to make sure I got it right. This is one of my new favorites!
Picture

6. Persuasion - I love this version. Sally Hawkins plays it so well, and Rupert Penry-Jones is my favorite Captain Wentworth.
Picture

5. Pride & Prejudice - I may ruffle some feathers with this one, but as the Kiera Knightley one was my first adaptation I saw, I tend to favor this one above the others.
Picture

4. Emma - I LOVE this one. The characters are all spot on, and it's so fun to watch. I feel like it captures the humor of the book perfectly!
Picture

3. Anne of Green Gables - Oh, Anne. Oh, Gil. Their love. I can't even stand it. Is it weird that I aspire to be like her?
Picture

2. North & South - I don't know ANYONE who doesn't love that kiss scene at the end. Richard Armitage is perfection in this drama. Oh, and I guess whoever plays Margaret, too, or something...

1. Poldark - Did you even question that this would be my number one favorite period drama? I thought not. There is nothing better than Season 1, in my opinion!
Another list of top ten favorites done. What are some of your favorite period dramas?

My Long-Lasting Regency Kick

9/25/2018

Recently, I've been on a Regency kick. And when I say recently, I mean the past twenty years. My family must know my love for the era (or I just talk about it incessantly), because I received some amazing, Regency-centered gifts for my birthday last week!
Picture
My husband is the best gift-giver ever. Every year, he surprises me with thoughtful presents I always love. This year, among many other gifts, he got me this great little Pride and Prejudice card game.

We haven't had the chance to play it yet, but you better believe I'm going to play Elizabeth, and I'm going to win. (Either that, or I'll be sorely disappointed with myself...and be a sore loser.)
My sister knows me quite well, also, as she gifted me a beautiful feather fountain pen. I use it when I want to feel like I'm Jane Austen writing a story. Then I realize it's much faster to use a laptop...so I use the feather pen then to practice my signature, and that works much better.
Who knows if I'll ever get over this regency obsession. That's a lie. I know I won't. But I'm more than okay with that because nothing makes me quite as happy as living vicariously through my characters as they experience the Regency Era firsthand.

September

I love September! When the cold months of January through March have passed by, and the pretty, spring weather of April and May have moved on, and the stifling, sweaty summer has dissipated, so begins my favorite time of the year!
Picture
September is my birthday month (yay, me!) and the beginning of my favorite season, autumn. This month, I love taking walks in the mountains (I don’t do ‘hikes’), open my windows to let the cool air inside my home, and watch the leaves change colors outside.
October is when all my fun fall festivities begin. (See My Top Ten Favorite Autumn Activities post.) I love the pumpkins, the harvesting, the movies, the costumes, the trick-or-treating, and the fall weather.
November holds some fun Thanksgiving traditions, including eating delicious pumpkin pie and my favorite—cold, leftover turkey on rolls. Mmm!
Picture
December. Do I need to even say anything about this month? I love Christmas, and you better believe I celebrate ALL. MONTH. LONG. However, I will say, I don’t start listening to Christmas music, nor do I decorate, until AFTER Thanksgiving. (Though I won’t judge you if you do differently.)

Yep, I am so ready for the start of this holiday season. I think I’ll go celebrate by making some hot chocolate while pretending it still isn’t 90 °F outside. Bottoms up!

To celebrate the nearing of my favorite season, I compiled a fun list of my top ten favorite things to do in the fall, complete with pictures! What are your favorite things to do during this beautiful season?
Picture

10. Autumn Clothing - So excited to wear boots and sweaters again!
Picture

9. Decorating for Autumn - I always go overboard with my decorations, but it's all right if it makes it festive, right?? Now I just need to figure out how to bring one of these trees into my house.
Picture

8. Reading The Legend of Sleepy Hollow - I can't believe I was twenty-one before I read this story on my own. I love it!
Picture

7. Pumpkin Walk - So many creative ways to display pumpkins! This one is from Inside Out.
Picture

6. Costume Making
- I also go overboard in the costume department, but it's so fun to have themed family costumes! This is me as a Hobbit.
Picture

5. Halloween Movies - My favorites include Clue, Arsenic & Old Lace, and Curious George, Halloween Boo Fest  (Seriously, I might love it more than my kids do.)
Picture

4. Playing in the Leaves - This is a picture of me as a li'l baby (practically). It was so fun as a child, but even more so now with my own kids!
Picture
3. Driving in the Mountains - Nothing better than driving with the windows rolled down through the mountains, stopping every so often to gather leaves from the side of the road!
Picture

2. Corn Maze - I hate these during the night. But in the daylight with the warmth of the sun, no longer tripping over ears of corn, and no chance of getting lost, I love it!
Picture
1. Picking Pumpkins - This is the absolute best. We love going to the local pumpkin patch at sunset. The golden light on the orange pumpkins is incredible in the countryside.
